Special Seminar: Andrea Walther

Dr. Andrea Walther from the University of Paderborn will be giving a seminar on optimization methods with automatic differentiation in aerodynamic and industrial optimal design applications.

Abstract: This talk presents the abs-normal form for piecewise linear functions, which can be used for the optimization of piecewise linear function. Such an optimization serves as inner loop for the solution of general piecewise smooth optimization problems using successive piecewise linearization (SPL). For the convex as well as the non-convex case the latest results with respect to the convergence analysis of this new SPL approach will be presented. Furthermore, first numerical results will be shown.

Bio: Prof. Walther was born on September, 9th, 1970 in Bremerhaven, Germany. After having studied Mathematics and Economy at the University of Bayreuth from 1991 to 1996, she received her Ph.D. from the Technical University of Dresden in 1999, and the habilitation in Mathematics from the Technical University of Dresden in 2008. In the meantime, Andrea Walthe gave birth to two daughters. Since 2009, Andrea Walther is W3 professor at the University of Paderborn. She has been (and still is) a member of the program committee of many international conferences on Algorithmic Differentiation and on optimization. Andrea Walther has co-authored one book, has co-edited one conference proceeding book and has published more than 75 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
